Shai Hulud

On Tuesday morning we headed out up north to the city of Chico,CA. A place I've never been to, we booked a small show with some local bands and it was really fun. Made some new buddies, got smoked out with excellent Nor Cal herb, and in the morning we proceeded on our way to San Jose,CA. It was only a three hour drive, not very long when you're used to driving eight hours and shit like that, but we got into town early, I finally met all guys in Born of Osiris, all of which are nice dudes and seem fun to hang out with, after partying a bit with those guys Shai Hulud pulls up, and we have to brake the news to them that the show is canceled. Shai Hulud being the hardcore vets they are were very understanding of the situation and ended just hanging out with us in the parking lot of PBSJ. Turns out the promoter still paid everyone in full and Born of Osiris decided it was best to head out to Los Angeles and set up camp. Shai Hulud and Antagonist on the other hand were willing to play anywhere we could, after chatting with Matt Fox and him being so awesome, he still has that DIY mentality; "We'll play to 30 kids in a living room if we have to" direct quote from the man. Now I'm not a big Shai Hulud fan, shit I don't even own a physical copy of any of their albums (only a few comps on with them on it) but we came to play with Shai Hulud, and after hanging out for an hour we pretty much became friends with one of the most influential hardcore bands of the last 10 years, a band that I can tell you that I respect and just seeing their attitude and how they handled things was very inspiring. Touring is not about making money! its about playing shows and wearing your heart on your sleeve every night! No matter if its ten people or ten thousand!! you fuckin' treat every show like its your last!!

11 rules to live by

I found this online, thought it was kinda cool, kinda interesting. Now, if you actually know where this came from then you earn 11 points, and if not, then maybe you should do some research, either way, it makes a great point....

1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.

2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.

3. When in another’s lair, show him respect or else do not go there.

4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.

5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.

6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.

7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.

8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.

9. Do not harm little children.

10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.

11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

Mitch Mitchell RIP

its a very sad day, I just found out that Mitch Mitchell drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience passed away earlier today. Most of you know me as a metal drummer but he was one of my biggest influences on the drums since the first day I hit a snare drum, infact the Purple Haze intro was the first drum beat I learned when I first started playing drums, Its a sad day indeed, now he gets to jam with Jimi and Noel up in the sky!! Jam on my brothers, play that sweet music!!

You know its right!!

So in September we went on a small run with our good buddies and awesome band Animosity. It was a great time long over due and on our LA date during the day we all went to CBS studios and took part of the studio audience in The Price Is Right, we're all into having a good time and all but we didn't think any of us would get picked to play!! All in all we had a great time and we've talked about going again sometime soon!! Enjoy the video.....

Results May Very

so after surviving the over night shifts of October I am back with a new blog, lots of ups and downs since the last time I've written a post on here, first I have to say that the two week run up to Seattle and back isn't happening after all, long story short we're a bunch of idiots, yeah, f'real! I'm pretty bummed about lots of things right now, and that only adds to it. Well other then that life at home as been not too cool either, seems like I can't live a comfortable life, never can I just come home and chill, its always something dramatic, its effecting my social life as well, I feel very introverted most of the time, like I can't join in on jokes and add my humor to anything, I'm always so deep in thought! why? I don't know, but I know that this shit has to change or I might go crazy. I think to best remedy for this right now is to surround myself with people with positive attitudes I hate being around such assholes, then I myself too become an asshole and its a lose lose situation my friend.

I'm a fuckin' engineer!

October is always a very slow time for me creatively, but today I will continue to re-record an old song I wrote. Re-recording a song is always hard, and usually painful since I feel that every recording has something to it that always makes it magical, but here we go!!!

New Favorite Song! (for the moment)

So I've been working these overnight shifts at work for the last two weeks and its been going pretty good. My favorite part of the night/morning is getting to hear all the different songs that we play at the store. I have V Cast on my phone and whenever I hear something I like I use the V Cast song ID function and it tells me who sings the songs, the track title and the album title, pretty cool huh?? well I found out that my new favorite song is.....

Title: "Be Thankful For What You've Got"
Artist: William DeVaughn
Album: Greatest Love

7am sucks!!

Just got back from work, my girlfriend is being super annoying for some reason, I think its just too early. It sucks right now with all this economic bull shit going on, I don't know how we're gonna make it through all of it but I have hope that by the time I'm 44 we'll be over it! who knows, maybe I'll die a poor man, but thats what I have noticed recently, it cost a lot of money just to live, but it cost almost just as much to die! people are dying and can't even afford to be buried, or even have a plaque/tombstone. Its just sad, I remember a few years ago when I first started working, I only would get around $100-$200 a check and it would stretch all week, back then I was driving and going out to a bunch of shows, taking girls out and all types of ill shit. Now I stay home all day and I'm still broke, I don't know how that works out but it does! Eh, as long as I have music I'll be ok. I'm hoping one day that can help pay some bills. I know it sounds stupid, lame and cheesy, but music is all I really have to hang on too, without it my life would be a wreck, I would be on drugs, or in a gang/crew just like every other loser in this city. I feel that I'm very lucky to be where I am with my music, only if I could shake off this whole "drummer" position and become noticed as the musician I am. It's funny, for the most part I write a lot more music then Carlos does, but I never bring any of it to the table. I guess I'm afraid that someone will talk shit about it, or say its not good, or just laugh and say "Drummers don't write songs" I guess, thats just what I am; a fuckin' drummer.

Introduction

Welcome to my blog! it's kinda weird, I'm not the typical blog person, I don't really do this stuff, but I figure I stopped writing in my tour journal that I've keep over the last eight years so I need to document my life someway somehow. As you can see I titled the blog "Life in and out of town" meaning I will post as much as I want and also from the road. So as I eat my taco bell and watch the history channel I will sign off from my first post with the hope of many more to come, see ya!!
